How much more would customers pay for a smartwatch with a connection to an iconic and historic business like Porsche?
TAG Heuer is putting that to the test with the creation of its latest smartwatch, the Connected Calibre E4 – Porsche Edition, which has a digital watch face that cannot be downloaded and used by any other Connected watch owner.
Engineering scarcity in the digital world, which is infinitely shareable, is tricky, but TAG Heuer has pulled it off before with the quickly sold-out Super Mario version of its smartwatch.
TAG Heuer’s core collection 45mm Connected Calibre E4 can be bought for £1,700.
The Porsche Edition is £2,300.
What do you get for that extra £600, or the £2,000 customers can pay for a more feature-rich Apple Watch?
Both the physical watch and the software have design features in the same shade of frozen blue used in the electrically powered Porsche Taycan.
The watch has an exclusive watch face, available only to owners of the special Porsche smartwatch, that is inspired by printed circuit boards and racing circuits.
If the watch owner also has an electrically powered Porsche, the TAG Heuer connected will show data such as car battery live on the dial.
Beyond that, the watch is pretty much the same as all other Connected Calibre E4 models.
They use the industry standard Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear chip set and Wear 2 operating system from Google.
The suite of apps is tailored for tracking running, cycling, swimming, fitness, and golf, along with the usual Google apps.
It comes in a 45mm black DLC titanium case with a polished ceramic bezel with blue and grey lacquer details, including the Porsche logo.
It can be bought now with delivery expected in September.
