Davosa toughens latest Argonautic dive watches with hard-as-diamonds steel

Named after Argo, the ship sailed by Greece’s mythological Jason and the Argonauts, the Argonautic BG Automatic is an upgrade of a collection first launched in 2008.

Davosa tells the story of how it all began back in the mid 1800s when Abel Frédéric Hasler started making silver watch cases in small series by hand; two of his brothers established a watch factory in Geneva; another brother set up a business in Biel and six sons learned the art of watchmaking.

One of those six sons was Paul Hasler, who set up his own watchmaking company, Paul Hasler Terminages d’Horlogerie, at the turn of the 20th century.

The business grew a reputation for assembling fine watches for a number of Swiss marques, but by the 1950s the company was making its own movements and watches, especially for customers in the United States.

The company’s name was shorted to Hasler & Co in the 1970s, and later to Davosa, a brand that first appeared as a watch collection within the Hasler portfolio.

Decades later, Davosa is a rounded watch business with a broad range of affordable luxury sports watch collections.

Davosa Argonautic BG Automatic

A fresh range of dive watches, launching this month, are right in Davosa’s sweet spot.

Named after Argo, the ship sailed by Greece’s mythological Jason and the Argonauts, the Argonautic BG Automatic is an upgrade of a collection first launched in 2008.

43mm cases and bracelets are made from a patented metal called Beyond Steel, which is said to be as heavy as gold, almost as hard as diamonds and completely resistant to chemicals.

Argo watches use ceramic diver’s bezels, which are also strong and scratch-proof.

There are versions in black, green, blue and white, all using  tweaked Sellita SW200-1 automatic three-hand with date movements.

Davosa Argonautic BG watches, water resistant to 300 meters, are retailing now for €898.
