Oris has ventured into new territories once again this month, with today’s launch of the Coulson Limited edition.
In collaboration with Coulson Aviation, an aerial firefighting organisation, the watch offers a 3D-prtinted carbon fibre case produced using a process which is a first for watchmaking.
Based in Canada, the family-run business sends pilots, planes and equipment into areas of the world affected by wildfires and is the only aerial firefighting company operating both fixed-wing aircraft and Type 1 helicopters.
The process to produce the case was devised by Switzerland’s ETH Zurich University.
It prints carbon fibre and a high grade polymer developed in aerospace called PEKK simultaneously, weaving them together to create an ultra-lightweight, extremely rigid material.
Powered by Oris’s five-day automatic Calibre 400, only 1,000 pieces will be made and it will retail for £3,400.
