Munich microbrand BWG brings a burst of colour to WATCHPRO Christmas Market

BWG’s Isaria collection, named after the River Isar that flows through its home city of Munich, has eye-catching shapes and angles for its steel case, lugs and bezel.

Bavarian microbrand BWG has a mission to make watches in Germany with a Swiss heart and is bringing that mission to the heart of London at next month’s WATCHPRO Market.

WATCHPRO Christmas Market takes place from December 2-4 (Friday to Sunday) in a pop-up retail space right by Piccadilly tube station on Regent Street.

Franck Giese, the company’s founder, is an industrial designer who turned his attention to timepieces after becoming frustrated by the uniformity and lack of creative progress by the traditional Swiss industry.

His aim is to shine a light on German design, but with punchier aesthetics than the usual minimalism of Bauhaus and a commitment to sustainability as a business.

Mr Giese has been bold in his choices colours, case shapes and dial designs.

BWG’s Bavaria 2018.

BWG’s first collection, the Bavaria 2018 Sport, came in white and blue colourways with with white dials, blue hands and a blue NATO strap, or a reversal of the same colour combination.

More recently, BWG has introduced the Isaria collection, named after the River Isar that flows through its home city of Munich, with eye-catching shapes and angles for its steel case, lugs and bezel.

The watches come in a range of colours for matching dials and straps made from rubber or leather.

They are water resistant to 200 metres and come with 120 click unidirectional divers’ bezels.

BWG has chosen to use Landeron Swiss-made automatic movements in watches that are designed in Munich and made in Switzerland.

BWG’s Bavaria 2018 is priced at €333, and the company offers substitute rubber or NATO straps for €33 or €55.

WATCHPRO Christmas Market takes place in a retail store space right under the Piccadilly Circus Christmas lights on Regent Street; one of the highest footfall destinations in London from December 2-4.
