Hodinkee founder Ben Clymer puts his name to a special G-Shock watch

Retailer and watch brand deepen their partnership.

Star power can transform the fortunes of an individual watch from horological curiosity to global phenomenon, Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona remaining the apex example.

Casio may not have its sights set quite as high, but the pulling power of Hodinkee and its founder and executive chairman, Ben Clymer, are being put to work with a new G-Shock Ref. 5600 by Ben Clymer, which goes on sale today (February 1).

The watch is the latest launch from a collaboration dating back to autumn of last year when musician and Hodinkee investor John Mayer lined-up three watches with fellow crooner Ed Sheeran and a second with Los Angeles design house Online Ceramics.

Completing the trilogy is the G-Shock Ref. 5600 by Ben Clymer, which takes design cues from Hodinkee, including the light grey of the retailer’s logo.

Its face is a walking advert, with NYC, TYO and ATL all featuring as links to Hodinkee’s New York headquarters, Tokyo office and Crown & Caliber, the pre-owned watch specialist it bought in 2021.

A grey rubber strap carries the Hodinkee logo and there is even a secret H that appears in the centre of its LED dial.

The G-Shock 5600 by Ben Clymer is available for $185 in the Hodinkee Shop. $5 from each purchase will be donated to the Horological Society of New York.
