Los Angeles’ most famous tattoo artist, Dr. Woo, has worked with Roger Dubuis for a second time to create a limited edition Excalibur.
The first collaboration, back in 2021, created a Monotourbillon, and this time the artist has brought his creativity to a skeletonized Excalibur Monobalancier.
Dr. Woo’s interpretation sees the watch designed around complex ceramic surfaces where time moves between the forces of the sun, Earth and moon.
His distinctive technique is applied to a laser-etched rotating sun on a PVD black brass plate covering the movement’s micro rotor between 10 and 11 o’clock on the dial.
His depiction of Earth covers the exposed barrel between 4 and 5 o’clock on a disk that turns every 6 hours and 40 minutes.
The moon is a slender crescent at 8 o’clock, in fine circles and lines, above the pulsing balance wheel beneath.
“Within this design, we were able to contemplate the way time moves in our galaxy, as our own Solar System is such an incredible place of enduring rhythms and shifting patterns. With their one-of-a-kind Hyper Horology approach, Roger Dubuis delivered a truly powerful and innovative platform for our creativity to flow,” Dr. Woo says.
The watch comes in a 42mm ceramic case with a bezel bearing Dr. Woo’s symbols that he uses like an alphabet.
It is driven by the automatic RD720SQ movement with 72 hour power reserve. Every single component is finished by hand.
