Mühle-Glashütte unveils first Edition 1994 watch to mark its big anniversary year

First-up is a 155-piece limited edition 29er Big Bronze Edition 1994.

Mühle-Glashütte is celebrating two anniversaries this year.

It is 155 years since the company was first created back in 1869, and it is 30 years since the business was reformed by its current custodian, Thilo Mühle, a fifth generation descendant of the founder who relaunched the business in 1994 with his father a few years after Germany’s reunification in 1991.

To mark the special year, Mühle is making a number of special edition watches under the banner of Edition 1994, each of which features the number 30 on their dials and the 55 minute marker replaced by 155.

First-up, launching today, is a 155-piece limited edition 29er Big Bronze Edition 1994.

The 29er Big comes in a special signature blue used by Mühle as a reminder of its nautical timekeeper heritage. Its date wheel has the number 30 minute marker picked out in red, and 55 becomes 155 on the seconds track.

It comes in a 42.4mm case with its middle, bezel and crown made of aluminium bronze, another link to its marine history because the material is used in shipbuilding due to its freshwater and saltwater-resistant properties. It will age into a patina over time.

An exhibition case back gives a view into the modified SW-200-1 movement, which has Mühle’s shockproof woodpecker neck fine regulator and a customised Mühle Edition 1994 rotor.

It is sold on a canvas strap with a bronze pin buckle for £2,300.
