Straton Watch Company brings back the 1970s Cuffbuster chronograph

For the racing enthusiasts who always wants their timekeeper on show.

It will take a truly passionate vintage chronograph collector or racing nut to remember the Desotos Bullhead “Cuffbuster”, a watch from the 1970s in a case shaped like a television from that era, crown and chronograph pushers mounted on the top of the watch, and a unique case and strap that place the watch further down the wrist than usual so that it pokes out from under a cuff.

Always on view, the chronograph watch was designed for racing drivers who wanted to be able to instantly see key timing information.

Straton Watch Company, which has been presenting its vision of pure nostalgia combined with a love of cars, watchmaking and beautiful competitive design in sporty chronographs since 2015, has adopted the Desotos Bullhead design for a modern day watch it calls the Cuffbuster Sprint.

Straton Watch Co. says the Cuffbuster Sprint is inspired by the bold and functional aesthetics of the 1970s racing and aviation scenes.

“Designed for the modern enthusiast who appreciates a touch of vintage flair, this watch promises both style and efficiency with its unique asymmetrical design,” says Kyle Schut, founder and chief designer for Straton Watch Co.

The Cuffbuster Sprint stands out with retro case shape and bullhead pushers and crown that make it easy for drivers and pilots to check the time without the need to adjust their sleeves.

It is available in six striking colours, with each model capturing the essence of speed and precision that is synonymous with the era.

The 37.5mm x 59mm 316L steel watches are powered by modified VK67 Meca-Quartz movements with running seconds.

Worn on a choice of leather straps, with the extender that places the watch head lower on the wrist, the watches are on sale now for $349.

  1. Jezus christ I’ve seen it all now. A whopping plate of steel on the wrist plus a watch. And I thought a DSSD was bad for the crown digging in.
Perhaps if someone wearing shirt cuffs would loosen their straps then it would be less of a problem.
