Nomadic Watches expands Turas 914 collection

The Nomadic Watches Turas 914 collection has been expanded with a new green dial version being added to the line-up.

Turas is an Irish word meaning journey or expedition and was chosen to sum up the timeless, robust elegance of this watch, because it’s not just about the timepiece.

In creating the Turas 914, Nomadic Watches sought to pay homage to two of its most admired heroes – the explorer, Ernest Shackleton and his wingman, Tom Crean.

They were both exemplars of unfailing determination and exceptional leadership judgement in the face of overwhelming odds against survival.

The 914 of the watch’s name references 1914, the year Shackleton and his men set sail aboard Endurance, their ship that would eventually become trapped and crushed in polar ice.

Nomadic Watches has released the watch, which is now available on a green, black ice and white-out dial which features raised numerals that add a subtle touch of luxury.

The green is a flat matt green with no texture. The black and white are textured to represent the ice and the polar night of 24hr darkness respectively.

The phosphorescent hands and dial markers use SuperLumiNova to release stored light energy slowly, providing vital detail at a glance when the sun dips below the horizon.

Each Turas is proudly built in Belfast, yet another connection to Irish gentry Shackleton and his right-hand-Kerry-man, Tom Crean.

Precision engineered and hand-built by Nomadic Watches’ skilled technicians, every Turas 914 has a screw-down case back to guarantee saltwater resistance up to 330ft.

The Turas 914’s exhibition case back is a tribute to the 1914 endurance expedition. There’s a small engraving of the men’s famous life boat – the James Caird – and their struggle in pulling it across 830 icy miles.

The Shackleton family’s motto is engraved on the watch back: ‘Through endurance we conquer.’
