It was a stormy start for Chicago’s famous Race to Mackinac sailing week, which kicked off at the weekend, with a number of boats damaged by strong winds and choppy waters.
The Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac is one of the world’s largest annual offshore regattas, attracting professional and social sailors from around North America and the world.
Known colloquially as ‘The Mac’, the ultimate test of Great Lakes navigation takes place in July just off Chicago’s famous Navy Pier.
Shinola was in attendance to launch a special watch — the Mackinac Yacht Watch Automatic Chronograph — just in time for the 98th outing of The Mac.
It has a bright canary yellow dial with orange and red details that contrast with a three-tone blue yacht timer sub dial that counts down 15 minutes to the start of a sailing race.
It is is water resistant to 100 meters and comes on a sailing-friendly ridged rubber strap.
The mechanical chronograph is presented in a square 40mm case housing a SW511.bhc automatic movement.
