Porsche Design launches chronograph for owners of the new Porsche 718 Spyder RS

A new chronograph for the few lucky enough to own a Porsche 718 Spyder RS

Tuesday this week saw the launch of the new Porsche 718 Spyder RS and 718 Spyder RS with Weissach package. To coincide with the new cars, Porsche Design has introduced the new Chronograph 718 Spyder RS, which will be available only to customers of the convertible roadster.

Each timepiece is produced at Porsche’s own watch manufacture in Solothurn, Switzerland. As is the norm with Porsche Design, every element of the timepiece shouts out high-quality finishing and unrivalled technical innovation that have been precisely matched to the vehicle itself.

The 718 Spyder RS stands out from the crowd thanks to its flat form and distinctive streamlined shape. Its six-cylinder mid-engine, race-proven GT chassis, and lightweight design provide maximum agility.

The accompanying chronograph is likewise performance-oriented and, thanks to its titanium case, is super lightweight. The case is available in either raw titanium or with a black coating. The bezel can be made in the corresponding colour and with a tachymeter or minute dial.

The coloured ring on the dial can be matched in Porsche Design Watches’ online configurator to any of the possible Spyder RS standard, metallic, and special colours. There are also an additional 114 colour options that include several historic Porsche hues.

The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with a seven-fold antireflective coating on both sides ensures optimum legibility on every hairpin turn. The choice of black “GT” dial or carbon “RS” dial add motorsport elements, while the white hour and minute markers are made of glowing ceramic Super-LumiNova.

The counter sub-dials are accented with Racing Yellow and “Flyback” lettering – “M” representing minutes and “H”, hours. The colours of the hands have been given their own Porsche names – Performance (white), Essence (black) and GT (yellow), which all add to the thrill of the race.

The mechanical gear indicator at 9 o’clock emphasises the 718 Spyder RS’s ultimate motorsport DNA with a chequered flag design in black and white and powerful “Spyder RS” lettering.

The end cap of the rotor can be customised in Brilliant Silver, Aluminium (satin finish), Dark Silver, Neodyme, Indigo Blue or Black, and is emblazoned with a “RS” emblem in Brilliant Silver.

Additional model-specific rotor colours can be selected via the timepiece configurator for even more originality. The back of the chronograph can be further personalised by engraving a personalised text of up to 12 characters, such as the matching roadster’s vehicle identifying number (VIN).

Powering the watch is the COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.200. The flyback function allows start, stop, and reset via pusher.s either side of the winding crown.

The watch is presented on a black leather strap made of silky car leather with an attachment made of black Race-Tex with “Spyder RS” engraved at the 6 o’clock position. Contrasting stitching is available in either Carmine Red or Arctic Grey. All straps include a quick-change mechanism and a folding clasp with pushers that match the colour of the case. A full titanium bracelet is also available.

The Porsche Design Chronograph 718 Spyder RS will be available exclusively for customers of the new Porsche 718 Spyder RS and Porsche 718 Spyder RS with Weissach package from May 10, 2023, and may be bought at Porsche centres and Porsche Design stores for a starting price of £9,540/$8,800.

The chronographs are presented in a box, along with a unique plaque displaying the limited number and a bespoke message (if desired).

When a 718 Spyder RS with Weissach package and matching chronograph is ordered, the metal is emblazoned with a “Weissach RS” graphic depicting the contour of the Porsche Development Centre’s test track in Germany.
