Peter Jackson closes half its stores

Peter Jackson has closed its stores in Bury and Carlisle so it focus its energy on its two remaining locations in Preston and Blackburn.

The jeweller’s eponymous owner, Peter Jackson, told WATCHPRO that he had decided not to renew leases as they expired in Bury and Carlisle.

“They were profitable. It was not really a financial decision in that sense. I am not getting any younger, and this is a six-days-a-week job, and think it will be better to concentrate on efforts in Preston and Blackburn,” he explains.

“It is a good news story in many ways, a positive move for the business,” he adds. “Nothing to do with the pandemic”.

Peter Jackson’s line up of watches includes TAG Heuer, Bremont, Oris, Tissot and Raymond Weil along with more volume brands such as Citizen, Emporio Armani and Michael Kors.

Mr Jackson, whose remaining stores are both in Lancashire, does see headwinds coming as the cost of living rises. “We need to be sharp for what could be a tough year ahead,” he insists.

“This year we shall celebrate 40 years of Peter Jackson the Jeweller. I have loved every minute of that time and feel very privileged to have worked with so many wonderful employees, customers and suppliers. Having worked six days most weeks I now want to spend more time with my family and concentrate on further developing the business in our Lancashire heartland of Preston and Blackburn,” Mr Jackson concludes.
