Nordgreen sticks to its roots with watch built to last 100 years

Nordgreen has unveiled the Guardian, its first ever sustainable watch which has been built and designed to last up to 100 years.

Nordgreen has unveiled the Guardian, its first ever sustainable watch which has been built and designed to last up to 100 years.

The thought process behind this century-long lifetime means the product will have minimum impact on the ecosystem of the planet.

Designed by Jakob Wagner, the Guardian will be available on April 19th and has been built from certified recycled stainless steel and longer lasting sapphire glass.

As part of the purchase of the watch, a full-service repair and refurbishing program is included as well as a unique 3D packaging printed from 3rd generation recycled PET plastic by Swedish Lostboylab.

On the design, Wagner explained: “We wanted to design a watch that could help Nordgreen play an active role in cementing a mindset and a community for those dedicated to saving our planet. For me the Guardian is so much more than a watch.

“It’s a movement. A state of mind. It’s a symbol not just of caring about nature, the environment and humanity, but of having the strength of mind and strength of character to actively help’, says designer Jakob Wagner.”

In addition to the launch of the Guardian, Nordgreen has partnered with external sustainability consultants to actively work towards transforming every aspect of its business with the goal of becoming carbon neutral.

During the production process, Nordgreen has looked critically at all details from design, choice of materials, corrosion resistance and transport costs to service, repair and the ramifications of refurbishing or recycling with the aim of ensuring full transparency and traceability of the total environmental impact.

Founder of the brand, Pascar Sivam, explained: “For too long the global watch industry has relied on conservative traditions and methods. Most brands rely on the past, production is secretive, materials pollutive, supply chains are none-transparent and most manufacturers are out of sync with digital and environmental demands and expectations from next generation consumers.”

He added: “At Nordgreen we know we are not there yet but we want to be fully transparent and committed to the cause going forward as we believe it is about time to take action and change the industry from within’, says founder of Nordgreen Pascar Sivam.”

With this in mind, Nordgreen has committed to take the following actions for the entire production line going forward:

  • Full transparency of design, materials and recycling of products

Continuous action on the following SDG goals:

  • Good Health and Well Being
  • Quality Education
  • Clean Water and Sanitation
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Life Below Water
  • Affordable and Clean Energy
  • Zero Hunger

The watch has a brushed steel case with a width of 40mm and is 11.9mm thick.
