LVMH will be a Premium Partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but its involvement will not step on the toes of Omega, the sporting spectacular’s longstanding Official Timekeeper, a spokesperson assured WatchPro today.
As if to prove its timekeeping prowess, Omega held a publicity event yesterday to launch the one-year countdown to the Games in the French capital yesterday, just as the LVMH news was breaking.
LVMH has said it will contribute its “creativity, exceptional know-how, unique sense of French art de vivre to the games”.
Omega was quick out of the blocks with its own announcement.
Its president and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann was joined by Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, and Tony Estanguet, president of Paris 2024 to reveal a Countdown Clock beneath the Eiffel Tower, which will track the hours, minutes, and seconds until the Opening Ceremony on July 26th, 2024.
“Accurate and reliable timekeeping is vital for The Olympic Games. For over 90 years, Omega has ensured the accurate recording of the athletes’ results so they can be written into Olympic History. We are delighted to celebrate the unveiling of the Paris 2024 one-year countdown clock together with our valued Worldwide Olympic Partner, Omega,” Mr Bach said.
