Longines reissues 1959 Conquest Power Reserve watch

It is 70 years since Longines first revealed its sporty Conquest watches in 1954, an anniversary sure to be marked throughout 2024.

First up is a reissue of a 1959 version of the Conquest, which had a power reserve indicator at the centre of its dial.

It is an admirably simple way to show power depleting from the point a mainspring is fully wound.

The display is made of two rotating discs in the centre of the dial, right on top of a movement’s main barrel that indicate the power running down on the external coiling disc, graduated from 64 to 0 hours.

The 2024 model is being made with a choice of champagne, anthracite or black dial with applied hour markers coloured in yellow gold, rose gold or silver, respectively.

Unusually, the watch has its date displayed at 12 o’clock in an aperture framed with the same coloured metal as the hours.

Unlike its 1950s original, the new Conquest has an automatic movement, a new and exclusive Longines L896.5 calibre that is visible via an exhibition case back.

The movement has a silicon balance-spring that is unaffected by magnetic fields.

It comes in a 38mm steel case with alternating satin-finished and polished surfaces, which is paired with black or grey leather straps.

All three models are on sale now for £3,500.
