Citizen is drawing attention to Japanese artistry with the release of a limited edition Eco-Drive three-hander with a black washi paper dial decorated with gold leaf.
Washi paper has long been used in shoji sliding screens in Japan to bring natural light into living spaces, making it the ideal material for light-powered Eco-Drive watches.
Gold leaf decoration uses a technique called sunago-maki where an artist places flakes of gold or silver leaf into a bamboo tube and then sprinkles them onto paper to create the effect
The watch comes in a 38.3mm gold-treated titanium case with golden hands and hour markers housing a quartz-based movement that stays accurate to within +/-5 seconds for a year.
It goes on sale in September for £2995 / $3800.
