Herbelin’s Cap Camarat collection has been a bit of a sleeper for the French watchmaker, which tends to get more attention for its nautical Newport range.
First launched in 2018, Cap Camarat deserves higher billing for its on-trend 1970s retro styling and a highly commercial combination of a sports watch, distinctive dials framed with elegant steel bezels and worn on integrated steel bracelets.
What has been missing until now is a racing chronograph with an automatic movement, which is the very essence of a 1970s sports watch.
That hole has been filled with the Cap Camarat Automatic Chronograph, seen for the first time today with a British Racing Green dial with black panda style subdials and the date at 6 o’clock.
The 42mm watch is powered by Sellita’s SW510 automatic chronograph movement, with 62 hour power reserve.
This is a sport chic watch that delivers the sort of details that would be expected at much higher prices from the industrialised Swiss marques.
Costing just £2,339, the watch has an elegant dial stamped with a horizontal pattern and suburst finish, applied hour markers and a bezel with perfectly aligned screws and a combination of polished and brushed facets.
