A Patek Philippe boutique has been opened in the Miami Design District by a new business created by the Govberg family.
Danny Govberg and his son Brian — third and fourth generation owners of the Philadelphia-based empire — have created Nineteen Sixteen Company (named after the year Govberg Jewelers was founded) as the proprietor and operator of the Patek Philippe boutique.
It is one of only two standalone monobrand boutiques in the United States. Gearys in Los Angeles has the only other Patek Philippe store on Rodeo Drive.
There are currently no Patek Philippe boutiques run by retail partners in the UK. The only monobrand is on Bond Street, London, and is owned by the brand.
Danny Govberg is a co-founder of WatchBox, a pre-owned luxury watch specialist founded in 2017 that generated sales of around $300 million last year. The Govbergs’ stake in the business is not public.
The family also owns Govberg Jewelers, which has two multibrand showrooms in Philadelphia anchored by Patek Philippe and Rolex.
Govberg has been an authorised dealer for Patek Philippe since 1987, but it is highly unusual for Switzerland’s most venerable brand to open franchise stores with its partners.
Patek Philippe Miami boutique
That is changing in Miami where Nineteen Sixteen has opened a 2,600, two storey, showroom in the historic Buena Vista Post Office building of the Miami Design District.
“We are excited to partner with Nineteen Sixteen Company to bring the first free-standing Patek Philippe boutique to the East Coast, and the second in the US market,” says Lisa Jones, President of Patek Philippe USA.
“This new boutique will significantly expand our presence in Miami, and we look forward to providing this opportunity for both existing and new clientele to immerse themselves in the world of Patek Philippe. Nineteen Sixteen will surely become an important destination in which customers can comfortably gather with fellow watch lovers for generations to come,” she adds.
The exterior of the Patek Philippe boutique retains the Neoclassical design elements and character of historic Miami, and the boutique’s interior is characterized by golden hues, woods, plush upholstery, and Patek Philippe’s distinct architectural style.
The showroom occupies two floors, and has a private courtyard, bar and lounge, as well as a library on the second floor.
Spaces designed for private meetings and hospitality have been woven into the floorplan.
“We are honoured that Patek Philippe has entrusted us with a monumental opportunity to offer an immersive experience to residents and visitors to Miami. Our vision for the boutique mirrors qualities of both the city and this distinguished brand – a balance between innovation and tradition, united by outstanding service and a pursuit of excellence in offering visitors exceptional timepieces, and celebrating a shared passion for watches,” says Brian Govberg.
