Casio has unveiled what is likely to be its bestselling G-Shock collection this decade.
The GA-2100 form, launched in 2019, with its slim profile, octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet has already been given the nickname of CasiOak by fans on social media; a tongue in cheek reference to its resemblance to Audemars Piguet’s legendary Royal Oak.
That was before the launch today of three all-metal versions in silver (GM-B2100D), black (GM-B2100BD) and rose gold (GM-B2100GD).
Casio is successfully providing a stepping stone for people whose first wristwatch is commonly made by Apple or Samsung today to the world of analogue timekeepers from watchmakers with centuries of history.
GM-B2100 watches do this with bluetooth connectivity to smartphones, dials that combine analogue hands and digital displays, and aesthetics that draw heavily from the most popular mechanical Swiss watches.
That said, the range is not derivative, but unique with up to 18 months of battery life, 200 meter water resistance, 38 time zones, multiple alarms, multi-lingual displays and solar charging.
And, of course, the legendary G-Shock indestructibility.
All three watches will go on sale together on August 12 at 10am, and there will be no need to queue outside like a MoonSwatch flipper because they will be available from G-Shock’s ecommerce site, G-Shock stores and select authorised dealers.
Price for the gold or black version is £499 while the silver piece is £449.
