G-Shock’s commitment to adventurers from all backgrounds is now solidified in a new collection of watches made to resemble the minerals and stones that have been used as guideposts for pioneers over the centuries.
The watches, which will form the Adventure’s Gem Collection, will be launched in January 2023, to kick-off G-Shock’s 40th anniversary celebrations. The three models will undergo special forging processes to create a mineral-inspired finish across the bezels. These ‘rock-face’ areas are then given a high-gloss polishing.
The naturalistic look is created via a two-step ion-plating (IP) process, with certain areas being masked after the initial plating before the piece is plated again adding further multi-layered colour tones and texture.
Each watch in the collection is finished differently, depending on the stone or gem that inspired it. There will be three models – the GM-5640GEM x Sunstone, the GM-2140GEM x Cordierite and the GM-114GEM x Calcite. UK prices will be £280, £270 and £290 respectively.
The chosen stones have meaning in Viking folklore – sunstone means bringing about victory, calcite stands for leading onward to success and cordierite symbolises showing the way
GM-5640GEM × Sunstone
The GM-5640GEM × Sunstone has a forged rainbow-colour bezel whose multi-colour shine changes according to the light and viewing angle. It is complemented by a translucent grey band signifying a metallic ore. The watch incorporates G-Shock’s shock resistance, 200 metres of water resistance, 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, multi-function alarm and flash alert.
GM-2140GEM × Cordierite
The GM-2140GEM × Cordierite replicates the striking blue colour of its namesake stone on the IP-finished bezel and moulded resin band. The PVD dial gives off different hues depending on the time of day and light conditions. Again the watch is shock-resistant with 200 metres of water resistance, a 48-city world-time feature, 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, five daily alarms and double LED light.
GM-114GEM × Calcite
The GM-114GEM × Calcite features a forged and ion-plated metal bezel with gold and black finish, its uneven look achieved through hot stamping. A shock-, magnetic- and water-resistant world-timer, all of the expected features from stopwatch, countdown timer, alarms and auto LED light are present.
