An early 1980s Seiko Pulsemaster that you could buy on eBay today for around £200 has sold for £35,560 because it was owned by Freddie Mercury.

The Pulsemaster (Reference S229-5001) featured in Seiko’s 1982 watch catalogue with a price of JPY 11,500 (approximately £63).

Sotheby’s in London sold the Seiko digital watch among thousands of personal items being sold by the estate of the Queen frontman.

In total, the auctions generated sales of £40 million as collectors and fans fought for memorabilia from the iconic singer.

Sotheby’s gave the Seiko watch a pre-sale estimate of £300 to £500.

It was described by the auctioneer as a plastic and stainless steel digital chronograph wristwatch with day, date, pulsometer and alarm with the case, dial and movement signed, circa 1982.

There was no condition report, so it is not known whether the 41.5 x 41.5mm watch can even be bought back to life.
