It won’t last, but the very first of Swatch’s Moonshine Gold Moonswatches have been flipped on eBay for around £1,000, four times there £250 retail price.
London was among four cities holding launch events yesterday for the bioceramic timepiece with a veneer of Omega’s trademarked Moonshine Gold alloy on its chronograph hand.
WatchPro was at the event, which attracted a crowd we would estimate at around 300-400, who formed orderly queues around the Royal Exchange, next door to the Bank of England in the City of London.
Speaking to people in the crowd, it was clear many of them were there for the potential profits of scoring one of the new MoonSwatches, but there were also genuine fans wanting to complete a collection, or simply get the newest model.
The watches began appearing online last night with outrageous prices of £2,500 — or best offer —, but filtering on eBay for pieces that had sold brought the list down to a handful that had gone for around £1,000.
Last year’s collection of MoonSwatch’s have been coming down in price on the secondary market since the early days of mania.
Depending on the model, sold prices on eBay are currently around £250 to £350.
The retail price for 2022 models has increased by 10% from £207 to £228.
