If you haven’t yet noticed that 2023 is the 100th anniversary of Disney, you soon will.
Citizen, a longstanding partner of the corporation, already has celebrations underway with the creation of Disney100 watches, the first of which features an early rendition of Mickey Mouse from the 1920s on its dial.
Citizen says there will be fresh pieces dropping every month this year.
Online at Citizenwatch.com, there will also be behind-the-scenes look at original dial designs, behind the scenes stories, and trivia about iconic characters that appear on watches, including modern day franchises owned by Disney including Star Wars and Marvel.
January was devoted to the creation of Disney in 1923 and an early Mickey Mouse storyline, Steamboat Willie from 1928, as a special edition box set containing a watch with a silver-dialed on a black leather strap and Disney100 case back, which comes with a matching collectible pin.
Donald Duck made his debut in the 1930s, and makes an appearance on a Citizen Eco-Drive dive watch.
Mickey Mouse is back to mark his appearance in as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice in the 1940s.
He appears on a bi-color steel on steel watch with a golden bezel casting a magical spell that turns the hour markers from Arabic into Roman numerals.
Mickey appears on six watches throught the year-long series including a New York style for the 2020s. Star Wars makes its first appearance in the 1970s, and again in the 1980s.
The Little Mermaid swims onto a dial for the 1990s and Spiderman and the Frozen movie are used to represent the 2010s.
