Circula launches two new limited dive models

The 1970s-inspired AquaSport 2 has been upgraded with a sapphire crystal bezel insert and an optional, new bead-of-rice steel bracelet.

Just in time for the holiday season, independent German brand, Circula has introduced two new limited-edition versions of its popular dive watches.

The 1970s-inspired AquaSport 2 has been upgraded with a sapphire crystal bezel insert and an optional, new bead-of-rice steel bracelet.

New colours have been added to the collection and, with blue as a firm favourite, there is a new 99-piece special edition. Named the Aventurine LE, it features a dial of aventurine – a deep and sparkling indigo quartz that is usually associated with watches at a much higher price point.

Continuing the colour theme, Circula’s super compressor SuperSport model, which debuted last year, has also received a makeover with a new red dial and complementing date window and Tropical rubber strap.

Taking design cues from early mid-century dive favourites, the SuperSport features an internal rotating bezel and a luminous sandwich dial. And good news for customers who missed out on the first-generation model in petrol-blue is that this version has been rereleased.

The watches have a 40mm steel case with 200m water resistance for the Aquasport 2 and 300m for the SuperSport. Both are powered by an upgraded version of the Swiss automatic workhorse Sellita SW200-1 movement.

Founded in 1955 by Heinz Huber, Circula was relaunched by Huber’s grandson Cornelius in 2018. Named for the circular swinging motion of a balance wheel, the Circula brand was kept alive – although largely inactive – through the wholesale business run by Cornelius’s parents.

Always a fan of collaboration, Cornelius enlisted the help of the watch community for the development of the new watches – via the brand’s website and watch forums.

“Originally, I did all the concept and design work myself and sometimes I couldn’t decide between two good options,” he says. “So, I decided to ask others and that grew from a few bloggers to involving basically anyone interested. In requires some clear boundaries and steering, but it is fun for everyone and a big success for us.”

Based in Pforzheim on the edge of the Black Forest, Cornelius is proud of the artisanal and watchmaking heritage of the area, saying, “’Made in Germany’ is important to me because the claim reflects our watchmakers’ aspiration for perfection in detail. I think this is something Germany is known for and we at Circula also try to live up to.”

The AquaSport II Aventurine LE and SuperSport Red LE can be ordered online at circulawatches.com. Prices from €/USD 629 + taxes.
