Beaverbrooks shares news that its former chair Gerald Adlestone has died

Mark Adlestone OBE says his 93-year-old father played a fundamental role in shaping Beaverbrooks for more than seven decades.

Beaverbrooks has shared the news that its former chairman, Gerald David Adlestone, has passed away.

Gerald’s son and chairman of Beaverbrooks, Mark Adlestone OBE DL, said: “It is with great sadness we share the news that my father passed at the age of 93.

“My father was a true gentleman, adored by his family, colleagues at Beaverbrooks, and so many people he met over the years. He played a fundamental role in shaping the business for more than seven decades, and was revered for his wisdom and respected for his strong values. He was a kind-hearted man who was committed to philanthropy and enriching the lives of others, a principle that I have observed and learned, and that radiates through Beaverbrooks as his legacy.

“During his career with the family business since 1950, he was loved by colleagues who appreciated his interest in their work and how engaged he was with the business. His great business mind and extremely keen eye for detail meant that all of his work was incredibly thorough, and many colleagues across the business have learnt from him.

“He will be missed by so many, and I feel blessed that we as a family have been able to spend such a full life with him.”

Anna Blackburn, managing director of Beaverbrooks, adds: “The news of Mr Gerald’s passing has brought great sadness to all who knew him.

“Mr Gerald was a great man and a formidable business leader who has instilled a legacy of putting others before himself – and his is a life to be celebrated. His engagement with all colleagues’ work and commitment to enriching the lives of others was inspirational and will live on in our business.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Adlestone family at this incredibly sad time.”
