Audemars Piguet has confirmed it bought Gérald Genta’s artwork for the Royal Oak steel sports watch for CHF 546,500.
With VAT and buyer’s premium AP will be paying over half a million pounds for the sketch.
“We did indeed acquire the water colour painting of the Royal Oak’s original prototype design, which was accompanied by a digital certificate in the form of a NFT and its authentication certificate (Lot N°1),” a spokesperson for the brand told WATCHPRO this morning.
“Genta’s original prototype design from 1970 is an important part of AP’s heritage and would be an important addition to the archives of the brand. The drawing will therefore reside in AP’s Musée Atelier,” the spokesperson added.
