Tamara Ralf, who co-founded the fashion house Ralph & Russo with her husband before leaving to create her own couture label, has worked with Audemars Piguet to design a Royal Oak Concept limited edition.
The watch is made from 18ct pink gold with a frosted finish and a three dimensional sunken dial that narrows in steps made from different shades of gold from yellow to brown.
Tamara Ralph revealed the collaboration during her Couture Fashion Week catwalk show in Paris today.
“My intention for the design of this piece is for it to capture the spirit and craftsmanship of both my brand as well as Audemars Piguet,” Ms Ralph, creative director of her eponymous fashion house says.
“The complications of watchmaking orchestrate a foundation which can be played with in terms of textures, colours and designs, allowing for the savoir faire of couture to shine through. Rich materials, unique colour palettes and ultimate precision are combined, creating an exquisite limited edition of the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon, inspired by Haute Couture,” she adds.
The limited edition concept watch is the first launch from Audemars Piguet since its former CEO Francois Henri Bennahmias left the company at the end of 2023, and signals that an orderly transfer of power to Ilaria Resta has been achieved.
“Tamara’s endless quest for perfection perfectly echoes our watchmakers’ dedication to pushing their craft to the limit. We are delighted to start 2024 in collaboration with such an inspiring woman and it is only the beginning,” Ms Resta says.
The Royal Oak Concept’s multi-layered dial is made from four overlapping circular pink gold plates, creating a ripple effect as they step outwards from a flying tourbillon.
Each plate is decorated with diamond polished gold thread that adds depth to the dial. The 44mm watch stands just shy of 12mm tall on the wrist and is worn on a brown or bronze-coloured integrated alligator leather strap.
Its rose gold hands are powered by Audemars Piguet’s hand wound calibre 2964, which has a three day power reserve.
