Braun bags Red Dot Design Award with its first automatic

It was launched to celebrate Braun’s 100 years in business and continues with design tradition.

Braun has bagged the Red Dot Design Award 2021, with the coveted prize recognising the brand’s first ever automatic timepiece.

It was launched to celebrate Braun’s 100 years in business and continues with design tradition.

Braun says the BN0278 Automatic remains synonymous with the brand and features a central yellow second hand and red chevron date indicator, both of which have been an iconic part of our design detailing heritage.

A flat Sapphire crystal offers ultimate scratch resistance and clarity while the Super-LumiNova hand-set ensures the time can be legible in all environments.

The automatic movement has a power-reserve of 41 hours and features a custom rotor while the caseback is individually numbered as part of the limited edition series.

The watch launch forms part of a wider celebration to celebrate the day Max Braun opened his appliances workshop in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Speaking at the time of launch, Professor Oliver Grabes, Head of Global Braun Design, said: “We have a unique opportunity with our centenary year to open up the dialogue around our founding principles of what Braun believes ‘good design’ is – useful, simple and built to last – and what its impact can be for the next 100 years. We have put an exciting programme of activity together with leaders in their fields who are defining what culture and design are today as well as offering extended warranties on our 100th Anniversary Collection.

Adding: “2021 is a unique opportunity for design lovers, especially younger generations, to get involved in ‘good design for a better future’ because, at the heart of it all, Braun is about user-centric design and we want the brand to stand the test of time.”
