Since non-essential stores allowed to open on June 15, WatchPro has been eager to get out and about to see whether shoppers are returning and keen to start spending again on watches and other discretionary goods.
Having taken a tour of the West End of London on Monday, the very first day jewellers were allowed to reopen after England’s ruinous un-targeted lock down, today we can show you the scene from the centre of the historic university city of Cambridge on the first weekend back.
Normally teaming with tourists at this time of year, the city centre was certainly quieter than would be expected on a warm summer solstice day.
The vast majority of shops were open and appeared to be serving customers in most cases.
Cambridge’s most prestigious jeweller, Mappin & Webb, was running an appointment-only system, and WatchPro was unable to get an appointment on the day.
Next door, The Watches of Switzerland Group, parent company of Mappin & Webb, is putting the finishing touches to a new Rolex boutique that will open in July.
