Founded in 1963 by two families who continue to be actively involved in the business, Malca-Amit is a privately held business and initially focused on shipping diamonds from Israel to Hong Kong. In 1963, Raphael Amit established a small office initially providing typing services for export documentation. During this period, valuables exported from Israel were commonly dispatched via regular mail along with the necessary export paperwork. The day-to-day operations of the office were overseen by his wife, Rachel Amit, and her sister, Malca Tykocinski. When the diamond business moved from Tel Aviv to Ramat-Gan, the office expanded its services to include airfreight shipments of valuable goods. This pivotal moment marked the company’s initial foray into the realm of international freight forwarding.
In 1979, due to a surge in diamond theft during transit, the Israeli government imposed a ban on diamond shipments via mail. Responding to this challenge, Raphael, along with his wife and sister-in-law, officially established Malca-Amit as a shipping company. This marked a significant turning point as they launched the inaugural Malca-Amit office outside Israel, situated in Hong Kong. Here, they meticulously orchestrated the safe and secure transportation of diamonds and other valuables. This strategic move ignited the company’s rapid expansion on an international scale.
As the demand for secure, professional, and expedient logistical solutions surged in alignment with the expanding scope of the international diamond, jewellery, and precious cargo industries, Malca-Amit embarked on a rapid expansion spree, opening offices sequentially. New York, Antwerp, Los Angeles, and London were among the first to witness the establishment of new Malca-Amit branches. Today, the company’s network spans the globe. Over the years, Malca-Amit has experienced substantial growth and continues to expand steadily. With a global workforce of over 1,000 employees in, Malca-Amit remains privately held, upholding its status as an independently operated entity to this day.
