Independent British brand The Camden Watch Company, was founded by husband-and-wife team Anneke Short and Jerome Robert in 2014.
Established as a showcase for their watch design studio, it additionally offered a chance for them to exercise their creative chops and demonstrate their firm belief in the goods they create.
As it was only ever intended to be a showroom, the pair were free to create without the restrictions of investors or the worries of how commercially viable the products were.
Based in Camden, the couple began to research the past or the area and discovered it was just as varied as its present, from Victorian horse hospitals converted into market booths, steam train turntables transformed into gin warehouses and inhabited by bare-knuckle boxers and circus owners.
Quickly, the showcase turned into a business with the aim of producing well-thought-out, exquisitely detailed products that are steeped in history and available at a good price.
Each model within the collection is influenced by Camden Town. From the No. 29’s Victorian pocket watch-like seconds hand, which was inspired by Camden’s rich railway legacy, to the No. 88’s turquoise-blue seconds hand, which was modelled after the recognisable “Camden Lock” bridge.
The No. 24, No. 27, No. 29, No. 88, and No. 253 are all named for the bus routes that pass through Camden Town.
The latest release from the brand is the No.27 range, The Purple Edition. Like every Camden Watch Company timepiece, every part of the watch, from the strap to the dial and winding crown, is designed, revised, and fine-tuned in the Camden headquarters.
With a distinctive and bright gradient dial in two shades of purple, the new No. 27 Purple Edition is a colourful take on the No. 27 Type II series. A 37mm, minimalist, unisex watch, powered by a Japanese quartz movement, the trio of watches come with a choice of Italian leather straps in three distinct colours: tan, brown, and black.
Inspired by vintage pocket watches, floor clocks, and carriage clocks, the elegant design is pure, displaying only the information required to swiftly and accurately read the time.
