Despite a surge in popularity for Formula 1 and the enduring passion for race series like Nascar, there is a special place in the hearts of motoring nuts for Monterey Car Week in California, home to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Monterey Motorsports Reunion and the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance.
It is a perfectly positioned series of events for luxury watchmakers, and Rolex was out in force with headline partner branding, hospitality and personal appearances by its racing testimonees.
Classic cars, both on and off the track, are the main draws, and Rolex provided a special prize of an engraved bi-colour Oyster Perpetual Datejust 41 to the Best in Show at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance.
The prize went to Lee Anderson Sr., who brought along an immaculate 1932 Duesenberg J Figoni Sports Torpedo, who was presented with the watch by Luca Bernasconi, CEO of Rolex Watch USA.
Rolex Testimonee and nine-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Tom Kristensenwas an Honorary Judge at the Concours while former British Formula 1 world champion Jensen Button made one of his first appearances as a testimonee for the brand.
