Peach fuzz pink declared colour of the year for 2024

Pantone's annual trend forecast says dusky pink, worn by the likes of Dwayne Johnson and Uma Thurman on the red carpet this year, will be the hottest hue of the next 12 months.

There is a holiday season tradition for big businesses to show they have their finger on the pulse by sharing analysis of hot trends to look for in the year ahead.

Leading the pack is Pantone, the self-appointed judge, jury and executioner of all things relating to colour, which has just announced the colour of the year for 2024 will be …. drum roll …. peach fuzz!

For the avoidance of doubt, that’s a certain hue of pink.

The US-based business describes itself as the “global colour authority and provider of professional colour language standards and digital solutions for the design community”.

That may be true, but will it feed into the design decisions of the biggest watchmakers?

There is good reason to believe it will, since the colour has been seen on the red carpet in the outfits of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson at this year’s Oscars ceremony and Uma Thurman at the Women Making History Awards Gala 2023.

In support of peach fuzz, Pantone says: “At a time of turmoil in many aspects of our lives, our need for nurturing, empathy and compassion grows ever stronger as does our imaginings of a more peaceful future.

“A warm and cozy shade highlighting our desire for togetherness with others and the feeling of sanctuary this creates, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz presents a fresh approach to a new softness.

“Subtly sensual, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a heartfelt peach hue bringing a feeling of tenderness and communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration.”

Shades of pink have been hot enough this year, particularly around this summer’s blockbuster Barbie movie, and was singled out as a hot trend by WatchPro

But not all pinks are created equal, so look out for peach fuzz making its mark with watchmakers next year, but remember they will be calling it salmon pink.
