Breguet looks ahead to Valentine’s day with ruby-set Reine de Naples watch

The first Reine de Naples wristwatch was designed for Napoleon Bonaparte's younger sister, Caroline Murat, in the early 19th century.

Every December, at around this time, Breguet shares news of a new watch designed for Valentine’s Day.

It is a tonic to cast your mind forward to the most romantic day of the year and the approaching end of winter.

Breguet’s latest offering is a 28-piece limited edition Reine de Naples, which is decorated with tiny red hearts for hour markers and 66 hand-set rubies on a white mother-of-pearl dial framed by a diamond-set bezel.

The watch’s crown also has a cabochon-cut ruby and its lugs are set with pave diamonds.

Housed in a 33 x 24mm 18ct white gold egg-shaped case is Breguet’s 3Hz 586/1 self-winding movement, which has a silicon balance spring and 38-hour power reserve.

The Côtes de Genève-finished movement, with its platinum oscillating weight, is presented via an open caseback.

Price is on application, but other models of the same reference typically sell for around £35,000.
