One of Stéphane Waser’s earliest decisions when he became managing director of Maurice Lacroix in 2014 was to replace the popular Calypso collection with a sporty new line named Aikon.
The company was ahead of a pack of brands moving into affordable luxury sports watches in 2016 and broke new ground again the following year when it introduced a version of the Aikon in bronze with a quartz movement.
Fashion moves on, and quartz is no longer as desirable, so Maurice Lacroix has brought back the Aikon Bronze with an automatic movement.
It goes on sale today as a limited edition of 888 pieces priced at £2,400.

In this spirit, the Aikon Automatic Bronze is yet another testament to how the fusion of materials, colours and textures with precision, reliability and durability can forge something novel and distinctive,” Mr Waser says.
The Aikon Automatic Bronze comes in a 42mm x 11mm brushed bronze case with Maurice Lacroix’s six signature bezel riders given a sandblasted finish.
It has a graduated smoked chocolate dial with ML’s favourite Clous de Paris pattern and gold-plated hour markers and hands.
The watch is powered by a Sellita SW200 three-hand movement, with 38 hour power reserve, that has been customised for Maurice Lacroix and renamed as the ML135 automatic calibre. It can be seen via an exhibition case back.
A vintage-style brown leather strap completes the look.
