Konstantin Chaykin was in attendance at Geneva Watch Days for the second time this month.
As part of the event, Mr Chaykin presented two of his latest Summer 2022 timepieces: the Joker Five and the Harley Quinn models, designed in the style of the famous Gotham City characters.
The Joker watch with its unique and catchy anthropomorphic face-dial was first shown by Konstantin Chaykin in spring 2017.
It became the first piece of the Wristmons collection which by now includes more than 20 models, each with its own design and unique complications.
During the exhibition this year Konstantin Chaykin presented the two latest models – the Joker Five and the Harley Quinn, launched to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Wristmons collection.
The new Joker Five watch embodies the iconic Gotham City character. The success of the unique Martian Tourbillon has inspired the master to again use a skeletal face-dial, accompanied by a newly redesigned signature Joker indication module.
The wide grin of the Joker Five is a new sectoral retrograde day-of-the-week indicator. The skeletal structure reveals a new main plate finish combining two drastically different textures – a fine granular one with micro-relief and a smooth anthracite coating while the functioning of the module’s components is fully visible.
The master has endowed the mechanism with four wheels with ornately shaped spokes, each forming the shape of one of the playing card suits – hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs.
The entre mechanism is steeped in recognizable Joker iconography – the two rack levers are shaped as a stylized letter J.
The new Harley Quinn model is the first female character in Konstantin Chaykin’s Wristmons collection.
He explained: “She is a rebellious, audacious character, which is very close to the idea of a watch as a kinematic art object with a direct emotional impact. She seems to be a compliment and the reflection of Joker.”
The design of the hour and minute indicators, the “eyes”, stands out among other pieces in the collection thanks to the strikingly bright turquoise and pink rim.
These additional colors were used to give the eyes a distinctive almond shape while keeping the dials themselves round.
The list of details that form the unique style of Harley Quinn continues with a small black mask, puffy eyelashes and perhaps the most recognizable part of the heroine’s look – the black heart-shaped tattoo on her cheek.
All these elements look particularly striking against the Wristmon’s dial background which combines two types of guilloché.
Both models are produced in limited editions: 38 pieces of the Joker Five, 28 pieces of the Harley Quinn.
