Konstantin Chaykin launches sabre-toothed tiger watch

Konstantin Chaykin has launched the Smilodon watch, which is its latest addition to its Wristmons collection.

The inspiration behind the new release comes from the symbol for 2022 in the Chinese lunar calendar, which was the tiger.

The word ‘smilodon’ is the proper classification of the now extinct sabre-toothed tiger, which is said to have died out around 10,000 years ago.

The characteristic smile of the Joker and other Wristmons is replaced by a tusky maw, framed by powerful saber-like fang. At night, the movable lower jaw closes, hiding a petroglyph-style image of an extinct animal, which Smilodon would have likely hunted. In this petroglyph the brand has hidden the names of the days of the week. In the morning the jaws open again, revealing a new petroglyph, indicating the new day.

The winding crown is installed at 6 o’clock, directly under the Smilodon’s chin. The watch is equipped with an automatic caliber, so if it’s worn regularly there is no need to use the winding crown at all.

Housed in a bronze case, the bronze-coloured dial is decorated with four different kinds of guilloche finish, along with yellow tiger eyes, which spin around indicating the time. The top lugs are shaped like Smilodon ears, and the bottom ones have a shape similar to other models in the Wristmons collection.

The back of the case is made of titanium and the caseback has a sapphire-covered window showcasing the self-winding K.08-2 caliber, which is based on the Vaucher VMF 3002.
