Jaquet Droz pays homage to the Lunar New Year, which will commence on February 10, with the unveiling of its latest masterpiece, the Imperial Dragon Automaton Red Gold – Cuprite.

This animated creation breathes life into the mythical dragon, a symbol deeply rooted in Eastern culture, showcasing a meticulous attention to detail that renders it a truly captivating piece.

Collaborating with John Howe, renowned conceptual designer of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jaquet Droz has produced a modern, powerful, and unique piece that pays tribute to the brand’s historical connection with the Imperial Court of China established 280 years ago.

The Imperial Dragon Automaton features a dial made from cuprite, a stone symbolising strength, energy, and vitality, its vibrant red hue reflecting the characteristic fire of the dragon.

Unveiling a lesser-known association of the dragon with rain, the artisans at Jaquet Droz have surrounded the dragon’s head and tail with clouds painted in gold and ochre shades.

The dragon encapsulates traditional Chinese traits with incredible attention to detail – from its upward-pointing moustache tendrils to its terrifying claws.

At 6 o’clock, the dragon clutches a ball made of red jasper, a stone chosen for its symbolic properties of attracting success, abundance, and promoting openness to the world.

The dial, featuring discreet openings, reveals the magic of the piece, animated by 19 moving parts and showcasing nine different movements. These include the dragon’s undulating spine, opening and closing jaw and eye, moving tongue, raising and lowering crest, and the constant rotation of its claws grasping the jasper.
