An IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar made for Mercedes Formula 1 team principal Toto Wolff has raised £160,000 at a charity auction run by Bonhams.
Mr Wolff’s watch was number 50 from a limited production run of 100 and the hammer price was four times higher than the pre-sale estimate.
The successful bidder was described by Bonhams as a US-based motor sport enthusiast and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 fan.
Along with the watch, the auction lot also included a behind-the-scenes tour of the Mercedes F1 team’s Operations Centre and HQ in England, plus an exclusive 10-minute video call with Toto Wolff himself.
All proceeds from the sale are being donated to Ignite, a joint charitable initiative operated by Mercedes and its seven times world championship winner Sir Lewis Hamilton to support greater diversity and inclusion in motor sport.
