Jose Miranda is a student of history in watches and has always been intrigued by the origins of the California dial.
The founder of Isotope watches would admire the mid-century dive watches of Rolex and Panerai with their Arabic and Roman numerals mixed with symbols to mark the hours, and decided to create a diver of his own in the same style.
The resulting Hydrium California is the result; a watch that retains the case construction of the wider collection but has a redesigned bezel and the highly desirable Californian configuration of numerals on the dial.
Only 200 are being made, with the UK launch taking place at WatchPro Salon, which takes place from November 10-11 at 5-star The Londoner hotel on Leicester Square.

The Hydrium California’s 40mm short-lugged case with crown guards has been bead-blasted to dull any shine and give it a tool watch feel.
The case, which has an exhibition case back, is water resistant to 300m.
It houses a Swiss-made Landeron automatic movement with a 40-hour power reserve.
It is sold on a fluorine rubber strap that can be swapped for a suede for £1,080.
