For his seventh year of partnership with Hublot, and marking his third collaboration with the brand, Maxime Plescia-Buchi has used the Sang Bleu prism to invoke the Spirit of Big Bang.
The renowned typographer, tattooist, artist, and founder of Sang Bleu has infused a new energy into the world of watches, much as his tattoos do, unveiling new forms and new viewpoints.
The five new watches were unveiled at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Famed for both its incredible art scene and for being the birthplace of fashion, the city served as the perfect backdrop for a collection inspired by fashion, design, and art. Both Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, and Maxime Plescia Buchi, founder of Sang Bleu were present at the event.
While maintaining all of the signature features of the series, this new Sang Bleu collaboration retains a distinctiveness that is unique to the Spirit of Big Bang. From the casing to the bezel, there are geometric tattoos that alternate and overlap.
The watch boasts a 42mm diameter and a faceted, structural design for improved three-dimensionality and ergonomics. There are three limited-edition models available: 100 in King Gold, 200 in titanium, and 200 in all-black ceramic. Additionally, there are two pavéd versions, in either titanium or King Gold set with 180 diamonds weighing approximately 2.4 carats.
Powering the new watch is the HUB4700 automatic skeleton chronograph movement, which is visible through the sapphire-crystal dial and disc hands that are a feature of Sang Bleu’s work with Hublot.
Despite its generous proportions, the watch offers a great ergonomic fit across all wrist sizes for men and women and optimises the dynamic properties of the barrel-shaped case.
The sapphire-crystal and the back of the case have both been curved at various locations in order to ensure that the watch fits the contours of the wrist and is flush with the body. The design of the hands and the hour and minute markings have also been improved for greater legibility.
Mr Plescia-Buchi has given each element, shape, and proportion a fresh viewpoint by transposing his line onto a different shape – the tonneau Spirit of Big Bang. This follows the same path that Hublot took back in 2014, when it brought a new energy to the Big Bang codes by introducing a new barrel shape into the line-up.
