For the fifth time, a creation of Konstantin Chaykin has been shortlisted for the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève 2022.
The Harley Queen model, designed in the style of the famous Gotham City heroine is one of the contenders in the Ladies’ category.
Every year the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, first established in 2001, selects and awards the most spectacular creations of the watchmaking art in the world.
Several hundred exceptional watches enter the competition every year, but only twenty of them receive the GPHG awards.
The jury of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève has already determined which pieces are to be included in this year’s short list.
In 2022, in each category, six contenders were selected. The Russian master’s Harley Queen watch is one of the six in Ladies’ category.
Konstantin Chaykin will be competing with the Perpetual Moon Eclipse I from Arnold & Son, Déferlante Secret Timepiece from Chaumet, Alpine Eagle from Chopard, Tonda PF Automatic from Parmigiani Fleurier and Perlée watch from Van Cleef & Arpels.
The Harley Queen watch was introduced in summer 2022 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the famous Wristmons collection.
The collection was first established in 2017 when the Joker watch with its striking and memorable anthropomorphic face-dial. Thus began the collection which today includes more than 20 models with varied designs and unique complications.
The Harley Queen is the first female character in the collection, a tribute to Gotham City’s a rebellious, audacious character, which is very close to the idea of a watch as a kinematic art funniest supervillain.
Mr Chaykin expained: “I sensed a unique style in the ambiguous character of Harley Quinn. She is object with a direct emotional impact. She seems to be a compliment and the reflection of my “Joker”. Her ability to stand out from the society at large and to enjoy it is something I expect from both myself and my clients.”
The design of the Harley Quinn is dominated by the two-color theme. It’s present both in the bright rims of the hour and minute indicators, and in the specially designed red and black strap.
Color accents in combination with finely detailed décor create a recognizable, memorable, and eye-catching image.
In 2018 the “Clown” watch won the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève “Audacity prize”. The “Joker” (2017), the “Joker Automaton” (2018), a collaboration with the famous watchmaker Svend Andersen, and the “Minotaur” (2021) were also shortlisted for the award.
The winners will be announced during the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève awards ceremony which will take place on November 10.
