After bull run of professional sports watches dominating sales, it appears dress watches are rising in popularity, with even Rolex introducing the elegant Perpetual 1908, a classical piece in gold with a small seconds subdial, at this year’s Geneva Watches and Wonders.
Swatch Group’s prestigious German manufacturer, Glashütte Original, is getting in on the act with a 1960s-inspired golden dress watch, the Sixties Small Second.
Watches from that era are also rising in popularity now that people are comfortable wearing something smaller and slimmer. Even leather straps are making a comeback, a trend Glashütte Original is running with by offering its new dress watch on a matt green alligator strap.
The watch has a silver dial with golden hands matched in colour to its 42mm case.
Hour markers use a typeface from the 1960s to give it a classic retro look.
Inside is a thoroughly modern automatic Calibre 39-60 movement, presented through a sapphire exhibition case back.
