G-Shock leaps back to 1980s Super Mario for latest special edition

G-Shock continues its collaboration with Nintendo with an homage to the 8-bit graphics version of the original Super Mario game.

There may come a time when the likes of Seiko and Casio run out of great partnerships for co-branded watches, but a DW5600 in collaboration with Super Mario Bros is not it.

The DW5600SMB-4 is designed with playful details from the classic 1980s video game including he red of Mario’s cap and shirt on the bezel and dial, a background blue from the game’s overworld stages and gold accents that recall the Mushroom coins.

An 8-bit Mario is printed on the silicon strap in a camouflage pattern, and all the dial fonts are 8-bit to create the atmosphere of 1985.

Mario even appears when the watch’s LED back light is on.

The watch comes in special packaging with an illustration of the opening screen of the 1980s game and Mario’s signature phrase, “Here we go!”

It is on sale from November 8 for £129.
