FIRST LOOK: Street art transforms Oris boutiques in Basel and London

Always keen to stand out, Oris is transforming its boutiques in Basel and London as part of a new Street Art Project.

Always keen to stand out, Oris is transforming its boutiques in Basel and London as part of a new Street Art Project.

During November, through Christmas, and into the first week of January, the facades of Oris in Basel and the Oris Boutique, London, will be covered in giant banners featuring a specially commissioned artwork by the Basel graffiti-pop artist BustArt.

His work brings pop art, classical graffiti, iconic cartoon characters from his childhood and vivid colour to urban spaces, and has appeared in cities such as New York, Berlin, Mumbai, London, Paris, Dubai, Cairo, Marseille and Amsterdam.

For the two Oris boutiques, BustArt has produced an artwork inspired by the warmth, security and joy of Christmas.

And of course, it also features the Oris Bear.

Reflecting on the work, BustArt said: “Warmth, security and joy are three emotional states that we associate with Christmas.

“In the picture, the man embraces the woman and thus represents security. The cartoon elements bring joy into it. The cartoons I have chosen are from my childhood and are not only aimed at children but also at the emotions of adults who remember their childhood and the emotions associated with Christmas.”

Adding: “The use of pop art is another element that fits seamlessly into this world and evokes emotions. By using the colours of Oris and the special Christmas colours, a coherent, warm picture is created.”

2022 is the second year of the Oris Winter Street Art Project.

Last year, it collaborated with the Basel artist Patrizia Stalder at Maison Oris which saw her passionate Christmas-themed artwork become a local destination.
