Ecozilla rises from the deep again for Citizen

Citizen has a long history of dive watches dating back to the 1950s, but some of its most iconic creations have come more recently.

The Promaster 1000m Titanium Divers Watch, released in 2002, was nicknamed the Autozilla thanks to the professional tool watch proportions of its 55mm case.

The same style was used again two years later for a more mainstream version of the watch using Citizen’s light-powered Eco-Drive movement, which led enthusiasts to dub it the Ecozilla.

This year Citizen is building on that history with two fresh Eco-Drive versions of the Ecozilla; one in raw steel, the other with a dark grey DLC coating.

They are still substantial, at 48.2mm across, including super-sized unidirectional dive bezels.

A blue-dialed piece with a bright yellow rubber strap makes a particularly bold statement, or there is a more camouflaged olive green dialed piece on a matching coloured strap.

Citizen has chosen the Eco-Drive Calibre B873 light-powered movement for the collection, which offers 6 months of run time on a full charge, and is accurate to +/- 15 seconds per month.

Both are on sale now for £499.
