CODE41 has covered its X41 entirely with sapphire, something it describes as a move which “breaks new ground.”
Already a feature of the X41 since the Creator Edition with its crystal with anti-reflective treatment, sapphire is one of the most exclusive and sought-after materials in watchmaking and now covers the entirety of the model.
The striking sapphire provides a unique spectacle when admiring the components of the X41, an exceptional mechanical piece.
Its technical characteristics offer exceptional hardness which grants it much greater resistance to scratching than that of steel, titanium and carbon fibre.
Only diamond surpasses sapphire in terms of hardness.
Its lightness ensures optimal comfort for the owner’s wrist, being two times lighter than steel while its transparency transforms the X41 into a genuine work of art, and allows its skeleton movement to be admired from all angles.
Crafted entirely from sapphire, the X41‘s case has represented a technical challenge of the highest order.
To begin with, it is much more costly to produce than a titanium case, 22 time more to be precise.
It’s also more complex and takes longer to shape than the two materials offered for the X41 until now, AeroCarbon and grade 5 titanium.
Not allowing for any errors in design or cutting, the sapphire case is currently only offered by a few Fine Watchmaking brands, and often at prohibitively high prices.
Touching on this, CODE41 explained how staying loyal to its vision and ambition, has decided to make a Fine Watchmaking piece in its finest setting available to all.
A number of aesthetic and technical changes have also been added, including new colours and a translucent strap.
What is the X41 project?
The X41 project is the vision of creating an authentic Fine Watchmaking piece via a transparent, community-based approach and making it accessible to all watch enthusiasts through “unbeatable magic and value for money.”
In terms of product, exclusive architecture and design are reserved only for the CODE41 community with price starting from £4,995, while comparable watches cost 20,000 CHF.
Thanks to a community of enthusiasts, there has been no lack of success from the release of the Creator Edition in March 2019 through to Edition 5 in June 2021 and in total, 1,850 watches have been sold for an overall turnover of 9,621,167 CHF.
The latest iteration is water resistant to 10ATM and is powered by CODE41’s exclusive manufacture movement with a 45 hour power reserve when not in use.
