BRITISH WATCHMAKERS’ DAY: Mr Jones Watches brings a touch of whimsy to its Unyeilding Sphinx

One of the UK's most innovative brands, Mr Jones Watches prepares for BWD on 9 March.

Mr Jones Watches, is set to unveil a captivating quartet of unique timepieces at British Watchmakers Day.

In commemoration of this significant event for the UK industry, the brand has created four distinct variations of The Unyielding Sphinx.

The mastermind behind the design is British artist and visionary Edward Carvalho-Monaghan, who has brought to life a surreal and dreamlike landscape on the watch dial, featuring imaginative characters and objects.

The watch showcases a sophisticated jump hour mechanism accompanied by central minute and seconds hands. With each passing hour, the numerals in the hour window undergo a mesmerising flip.

Notably, the winged sphinx character on the left of the dial undergoes a transformation with each passing hour, presenting an alternative and artistic perspective on the unfolding day.

Functioning conventionally, the minute and seconds hands are complemented by subtle images within the design, serving as discreet markers for timekeeping.

Crispin Jones, the visionary founder and director of Mr Jones Watches, says that The Unyielding Sphinx “stands as our most technically intricate creation”. To complement the watches, Jones has made four unique straps, each adorned with alternating coloured stitches.

Underlining the spirit of ‘stronger together’, which the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers is based on, this exceptional timepiece was developed in collaboration with Christopher Ward and integrates a jump hour module with a Swiss-made Sellita SW200 automatic mechanical movement.
