Beaucroft Watches has announced a collaborated with Bristol-based artist Penfold (aka Tim Gresham) on a limited-edition watch that will launch exclusively at British Watchmakers’ Day on the 8th March.
A portion of the proceeds from each timepiece will be donated to the Alliance of British Watch & Clockmakers, supporting the future of British watchmaking and design.
The 75-piece collection is a celebration of British Art and design, and takes inspiration from creative movements including Pop Art and Modernism.
Understated yet undeniably impactful, the dial is spotlighted by a unique layering technique that sees a matte white base sat beneath a metal bar, featuring a dynamic two-tone linear airbrushed gradient, finished with a debossed Beaucroft emblem.
This artwork is said to reveal hidden depths through interplay of light, with the design becoming more dynamic as you tilt the watch. With each movement, the height and shadow of the bar shifts, bringing the black dot into sharper focus.
Created by Tim Gresham (Penfold), this piece of art is emblematic of his explorative abstract paintings and screen prints which have been exhibited all over the world, from Shanghai to Denver.
Of the collaboration, Gresham said: “When Beaucroft first spoke to me about designing a watch I initially had something wild and loud in my head. After playing around with ideas and compositions I found myself stripping back the elements and letting the watch speak for itself.”
Beaucroft Co-founder Matt Herd echoes this design choice, explaining: “Tim is a great friend of our brand, and what we admire most about his work is his ability to evoke mood and emotion through simple, abstract geometry, layered compositions, and striking colors. We’ve always believed his art would translate beautifully onto a watch dial to create piece of art on the wrist.”
Beneath the 39mm case beats a Japanese Miyota 9039 automatic mechanical movement which has a 42-hour power reserve and hacking function, plus a water resistance of 200 metres.
Following the British Watchmakers’ Day release, remaining watches will be available for pre-order on the Beaucroft Watches website at 9am GMT 9th March.
