Time Travelers, the latest launch from Awake Concept, pays tribute to the Muonionalusta, which is believed to be the oldest meteorite known to date and 20 million years older than the earth itself.
It means that the dial on the new Time Travelers watch from Awake Concept is features what is believed to be the oldest known object on the planet.
The metallic patterns on the dial are a result of intense heating, followed by a rapid cooling when the meteorite first entered the atmosphere.
A succession of delicate operations when cutting the meteorite into thin strips which are then polished to reveal the srirations shows why in addition to its scarcity, has a very limited use in watchmaking.
The case is also made of 70% recycled titanium which is used in aeronautics and aerospace which offers performances strictly equivalent to those of a raw material, while significantly reducing its environmental impact.
Built to perform as a true toolwatch, the strap, like the case, is also light, comfortable and resistant while the Japanese-made Miyota Caliber powering the watch is reputed for its reliability and ease of maintenance.
The rotor has been completely reworked and offers meticulous finishes – polished bevels, brushed and sandblasted alternations, deep markings – and gives a very technical aesthetic.
The case, dial, indexes, hands, case back and strap have been subtly revised to give Time Travelers its own identity through more horological codes, while maintaining a connection to the first two chapters of Mission To Earth.
There are two limited editions of 500 pieces, with each watch being designed and assembled in France.
